Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program

Get the intensive care you need to heal while maintaining your daily responsibilities. Intermountain Hospital’s virtual intensive outpatient program offers convenient behavioral healthcare for adults and teens.

Virtual Behavioral Health Services Available Nationwide

Our virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) is for people stepping down from a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or stepping up from weekly therapy. Virtual IOPs are a convenient behavioral healthcare option for adults and for adolescents ages 12 and up. Participants attend three days a week for several hours — anywhere from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (MT) — from the privacy of their home or office.

Intermountain Hospital’s virtual IOP makes mental healthcare more accessible to more people in more places. You don’t have to attend in person to benefit from intensive patient-centered care.

Mental Health Conditions We Care for in Our Virtual IOP

We serve people with a wide range of mental health diagnoses, working to expose root causes and heal trauma. Behavioral health conditions we care for include:

  • Anxiety, worry and fear
  • Bipolar disorder and mood instability
  • Depression, grief and loss
  • Domestic violence
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

What Happens in an IOP

The program requires several hours of participation, three days per week. A choice of daytime or evening hours makes a virtual IOP a convenient option for busy families. Adults and adolescents can receive high-quality online care in a comfortable setting.

Here’s what to expect during our virtual IOP:

  • Daily check-in to assess progress and talk about the day’s goals
  • Peer-group sessions to discuss challenges, relationships, setbacks and triumphs
  • Individual therapy to identify persistent issues, strengthen existing coping skills and grow personal awareness
  • Psychological education to strengthen understanding of thoughts, feelings and healthy behavioral responses

Local participants stepping down from an Intermountain Hospital partial hospitalization program may choose to attend an IOP in person or may require supplemental care. Care may involve observed drug testing; relapse prevention; continued medication management; and employer, school or law enforcement check-ins.

Next Steps After Our Intensive Outpatient Program

After our IOP, we help you transition to an existing or new therapist or psychiatrist to continue your behavioral health treatment. Intermountain Hospital is here to support your success in achieving a positive, fulfilling life.
