Similar to our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Intermountain Hospital, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers group therapy services for individuals experiencing increased symptoms, behavioral disturbances or other conditions negatively impacting mental and behavioral function in their daily lives, but in a less supervised structure.
Patients meet for three hours each session with three sessions per week. Successful graduates from the program complete between eight and 12 weeks (21 and 24 sessions) within the Intensive Program. Group sessions are facilitated by a Masters-level therapist and supervised by the clinical director.
Therapeutic topics include skills learning, emotional processing, activity therapy and expressive therapies. Services take place in a group setting to allow youth adults to learn from others, gain support and accomplish their recovery goals. We address their health and wellness needs within a positive and affirming environment.
Goals include stress management, distress tolerance, decreasing self-harm, improving relationships and interpersonal skills, expanding effective and healthy social and communication skills, increasing knowledge about physical and emotional wellness, developing skills to cope without substances, increasing self-confidence and self-esteem more.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program focuses on the needs of adults with emotional or behavioral issues. The goal of the program is to help identify strategies patients can use to cope with the challenges they face.
Intensive treatment and skill building allows patients to learn from others and gain support.
As a part-time program, adult intensive outpatient services are highly structured and feature many of the same therapy sessions and treatment services as residential and PHP levels of care. However, as treatment only spans a few hours a day at an adult outpatient facility, this treatment option allows more freedom than other levels of care.
Patients are able to return home or attend to other responsibilities after treatment, allowing for you or your loved one to receive structured care while also not giving up community or familial relationships.
An Adult Intensive Outpatient Program provides you or your loved one with the education, tools and skills to live a happier, healthier life.
However, research shows that the longer a patient remains connected to treatment through the continuum of care, the more likely they are to have positive results in the long-term. This means that patients who step-down into an intensive outpatient program for adults from residential treatment or a PHP remain connected to treatment through an IOP and are more likely to remain in recovery.
An IOP can be a good first start to treatment, as well. Reach out to us today to find out if an IOP could be the right step for you or your loved one.
